55 | TRAILER TUESDAY | 55

The Girl on the Train rolled into the number one slot this weekend at the box office. I was really curious about this movie, especially after hearing the book was so good. I've yet to read any reviews, but I remain optimistic! The Birth of a Nation, however, seems to have flopped. Whether this is because of the film itself or the controversy surrounding the writers/director, I don't know, but either way it's not good.

This past weekend was also the New York Comic Con and a lot of new teaser trailers were released for the event, so I'm excited to share a handful of them with you!

John Wick: Chapter 2 - Teaser Trailer (2/10/2017):

The man, the myth, the legend... John Wick! Awwwwwwyeah! I'm probably not the only one that rejoices hearing that John Wick is seemingly unable to embrace retirement. As I'm sure many Keanu Reeves (The Matrix, Speed) fans are excited that he is still making his Hollywood comeback. I know I am. This teaser trailer looks to verify that a lot of the first movie's stylistic action remains intact, and we have introductions to some new cast members like Laurence Fishburne (The Colony, Predators), John Leguizamo (American Ultra, Meadowland), and Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black, Around the Block). But have no fear, Ian McShane (We Are Marshall, Sexy Beast) and Lance Reddick (White House Down, Fringe) reprise their roles!

I'm not sure what all to say except that I'm very excited for this sequel. It appears Ruby Rose and/or Common (Now You See Me, Smokin' Aces) may be playing some of John Wick's primary adversaries. I know there wasn't much revealed in the terms of plot, but I think I'll be avoiding any future trailers. This one says enough. John Wick has remained retired from retirement. He's going to fuck up some bad people. He has puppy 2.0. 'Nuff said!

If a fan of Keanu or action movies in general, I'd highly recommend checking out the original, if you haven't yet done so.

The Great Wall (2/17/2017):

I'm honestly not sure what to think about The Great Wall. The teaser trailer was kind of intriguing, but as I suspected, there was a ton of controversy over the casting of Matt Damon (Promised Land, Contagion), Pedro Pascal (Narcos, Sweets), and Willem Dafoe (Bad Country, Odd Thomas) given the context of the film. It's not quite the same as some other arguments made against other movies, but yeah. Regardless of that, the trailer made me excited for like... dinosaurs... or something. It does seem that the creatures are lizardesque, just a lot smaller than I thought was originally implied.

Overall I think the movie looks okay, but not one I'm going to be rushing out to see. It opens a week after the John Wick sequel, and I would honestly be surprised if it comes out on top. It is an interesting alternative, fantasy take on the history of one of the seven wonders of the world, but I'll have to catch it on Redbox or Netflix. The Great Wall also stars Tian Jing (Police Story: Lockdown, Special ID) and Andy Lau (House of Flying Daggers, Infernal Affairs).

Iron Fist - Teaser Trailer (3/17/2017):

Who is Iron Fist? Good question, I've no idea! Well, I have a very limited idea, being I used to read comics, watched many of the Marvel cartoons of the 80's/90's, and sometimes play Marvel Puzzle Quest. I never really focused on the superhero, however. But this has been said about many of the characters Marvel Studios has decided to bring to life, whether on the big screen or otherwise. Finn Jones (Game of Thrones, The Last Showing) plays the main character Daniel Rand, and he is joined by another GoT alumni Jessica Henwick (Dragonfly, Silk) and Lewis Tan (Sacrifice, 10,000 Days).

I'm undoubtedly intrigued by the teaser and am looking forward to finding out more about this new Netflix series. The final Defender arrives... But I still need to watch Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, sooooooo yeah...

Power Rangers - Teaser Trailer (3/24/2017):

Now, had I not known the name of the movie of the trailer I was watching, I would have been relatively clueless until the end that this was about Power Rangers. Granted, I know the little Mighty Morphin Power Rangers jingle played at the beginning, but still! All I know is that I've never really gotten into the original series — any of them — but this teaser trailer was great. I literally came away thinking: holy shit, I give a damn about a Power Rangers movie?! It was that good.

The trailer is basically an introduction of all the Power Rangers (played by Naomi Scott — The 33, The Martian; Becky G. — Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, The Smurfs 2; Dacre Montgomery — Safe Neighborhood; Ludi Lin — Monster Hunt, Holiday Spin; and RJ Cyler — Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Second Chances); how they all meet, stumble across and test their powers, and come together as a team. I'd argue that we are shown a bit too much, literally in chronological order, but I'm hoping this makes up only the first half an hour of the movie. We'll see. And while at the end we come across Elizabeth Banks (Walk of Shame, Little Accidents) in her creepy role, I will probably avoid upcoming trailers. Even if they happen to feature Bryan Cranston (The Infiltrator, Trumbo) and Bill Hader (Sausage Party, They Came Together). Then again, I can't help but be curious what the actual overall storyline is going to be... We'll see!

Ninjak Vs. The Valiant Universe - Teaser Trailer (TBD 2017):

This is an interesting "sizzle" teaser trailer, as they call them, I guess. As I mentioned above, I used to collect and read comics. Valiant is (or was?) a comic book publisher that many people may not know about. That's not to say that they didn't have any popular material (X-O Manowar, Bloodshot, Shadowman, and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter come to mind), so I'm really really curious how they break into their own Cinematic Universe. I'm not sure if Ninjak was one of their most popular comics, but I'm assuming so, since it's their leading entry. Looks like a handful of their characters will appear alongside Ninjak in this movie. Or rather, web series?

The teaser is definitely very rough around the edges, and not even IMDb has enough info for me to list the actors involved, so I will have to wait to dig into it more another time! Really interested in this project.
