74 | TRAILER TUESDAY | 74

Once again Beauty and the Beast is number one at the box office with another 90M$. Not too surprising. Power Rangers attempted to give it a run for its money, but fell in at under half of that with 40M$. Kong: Skull Island came close to hitting 15M$, Life brought in 12.5M$ (despite a lot of hype over the past few weeks), and Logan taking fifth with around 10M$.

I'm semi-giddy to report that CHIPS flopped, bringing in under 8M$, less than Get Out (9M$), which has been in theaters for over a month now. It just looked like a disaster to me. The top five is likely to change up drastically this weekend with The Boss Baby and Ghost in the Shell on the way. I'm really curious if either will topple Kong.

It's really odd, but I was excited about this week's selection being movies starting with "The"... So, yeah, here ya go!

The Void (4/7/2017):

I really like this trailer for The Void. We get slow build up to the intense creepiness taking place in the storyline, which seems to be some cult honing in on an individual or location. With their appearance, it's obvious a bunch of crazy things begin triggering and the small group of people stuck in a hospital are essentially screwed.

I don't know, I'm really interested in this movie, even though horror isn't generally my style. If a lot of the horror factor is done in the dark and not so blatantly in your face, I will enjoy it more. Cheap scares are a dime a dozen nowadays, though, so I won't hold my breath.

I'm unfamiliar with the cast, which includes Ellen Wong (Silent Night, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Kathleen Munroe (Patriot, Call Me Fitz), Kenneth Welsh (Undercover Grandpa, The Fog), and Aaron Poole (Forsaken, The Captive), but sometimes I think that's a positive for a movie, especially one that looks to be more independent.

The Lost City of Z (4/14/2017):

Charlie Hunnam (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Sons of Anarchy) seems to be advancing fairly decently to the big screen, though I suppose he's no real stranger to it. I can't recall if Pacific Rim was a successful movie or not, but hopefully one of his upcoming ones are. This looks like a very promising film, one based on a true story which I know absolutely nothing about. The trailer is well done and doesn't show too much, even clocking in a bit longer than another that was available to pick from.

The scenic shots will probably steal the show, showcasing beautiful panoramas of countryside and jungle alike. It also seems like an intriguing story too, though, pushed along by the talented acting of Hunnam and Sienna Miller (High-Rise, Foxcatcher). Robert Pattinson (Life, The Rover) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Edge of Winter) also star.

I'm not sure this movie has much hype behind it, so it may not fare too well in theaters, but I'm really hoping it's an engaging experience, drawing us into the period and the journey the lead character and his group embark upon.

The Promise (4/21/2017):

Unlike The Lost City of Z, I think the trailer for The Promise gives us way, way too much. It feels like we are potentially offered every pivotal emotional scene. Most of it may be in chronological order too. That's not to say that it looks like a crappy movie, just that I wish that some major scenes weren't spoiled. However, I will say that while there appears to be a love interest between Christian Bale (The Big Short, American Hustle) and Charlotte Le Bon (The Take, The Walk), but the main focus is obviously between Le Bon and Oscar Isaac (X-Men: Apocalypse, Star Wars: The Force Awakens). So if there is some kind of love triangle they definitely downplay it in the trailer.

The Promise looks like a good movie, with great acting from all involved, but I will probably wait until Netflix/Redbox to watch it. Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse, Star Trek Beyond), Angela Sarafyan (Westworld, 1915), Jean Reno (The Last Face, Alex Cross), and James Cromwell (Big Hero 6, Soldiers of Fortune) also star.

The Dinner (5/5/2017):
