2020 has been rough on us all, from pandemics to lockdowns to riots to political tensions, and I think even murder hornets were briefly a thing? Either way, it’s been months of depressing isolation for most. I joke about how I have been training my whole life for this (I’m basically a recluse already), but I feel bad about denying offers from friends to get together, whether for celebrations, campfires, or game nights. I am probably overly cautious because of my immune system. It is what it is.
When finding out Extra Life was still centering an event around board games this weekend (Aug 22-23, 2020), I was at first excited, but then again melancholy. This will be my seventh year participating in Extra Life fundraising, a year I was hoping would be Extra special, but I’m very doubtful we’ll even be able to have our annual 24-Hour Gaming Marathon event this November. Depending on the landscape, it may still be too risky to have 20+ people coming in and out throughout it. So we will see what happens as we get closer to that time.
Despite all the Doom and Gloom, this weekend my girlfriend and I will be playing games this and fundraising for Extra Life. I’ve been hesitant to ask for donations given the current state of the world, but the Truth is, the lil runts still need our help and I truly love doing so.
I’m actually hoping that this Tabletop Appreciation Weekend is an annual event with Extra Life. They already had something similar revolving around International Tabletop Day, which generally landed around April. But International Tabletop Day is dead, and the unofficial replacement for it (Board Game Expo maybe?) seems non-existent (or I missed it completely), so I fell that this would make for a worthy successor!
So if you are interested in participating yourself, whether donating, encouraging, liking, sharing, or even registering and fundraising yourself (The Cryton Crusaders team is back up and in action, if wanting to join), by all means please do! It would be awesome! Links below:

I plan to post pictures via FB and Twitter, so keep an eye out!
As for the 24-Hour Marathon? Like I said, we will have to wait and see, adjusting accordingly to whatever conditions exist at that time.
Thank you everyone for all of your support!
