It's almost that time again! Time for what exactly? Time for this:
International TableTop Day is an annual event created by Boyan Radakovich, a producer of Geek & Sundry, and inspired by Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day's brainchild: TableTop. If unfamiliar, TableTop is a web series hosted by Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation) which highlights modern tabletop games, explaining how to play them, and then actually playing them with guests of various backgrounds, but most are in the entertainment industry.
So if you love board games, I'd highly recommend checking it out! One caveat I have, however, is that while they go about "teaching" how to play the games featured, before actually playing them, I've noticed they make quite a few mistakes. I'm not sure why edits aren't made to rectify these, especially once they are pointed out, but it's one pet peeve that I have with the show being it tries embracing an educational element (not to mention it's essentially paid for by fans via crowdsourcing). But beyond that it's an absolutely fantastic show!
Oh yeah, International TableTop Day! 2013 (though I see 2012 labeled on Geek & Sundry's logo) marked the first International TableTop Day, an event that celebrates the community surrounding tabletop gaming, and supporting local brick and mortar shops. Like Gen Con, there are many promotional cards for participants at locations partaking in the festivities. And like Extra Life, many make a marathon out of it, some even streaming live online through the late night hours. I'm hoping to do a 24 Hour Marathon if I can!
If you can find a local store hosting events you should definitely stop by. Maybe you can get some gaming in, score some sweet swag, and meet some new people. If that's not your cup of tea, you can always have a get-together with some friends and play the night away!
International TableTop Day 2016 is April, 30th.
Have you ever participated in International TableTop Day? If so, what was your experience like? Did you score any nice swag? Did you marathon or live stream the event? If participating this year, what games are you most looking forward to playing? Are you a fan of Geek & Sundry's TableTop web series?
