Filler Game

A to Z 2015 : ZAR

A to Z 2015 : ZAR

Our final entry into the A to Z (albeit, technically, days late) is another Filler/Gateway game. It shares very similar elements and game mechanics of Crazy Eights and Uno. Like those, this is a card game centered around matching cards and being the first to empty your hand — with a few added twists.

Let's take a look at the slightly more aggressive "screw your neighbor" approach of...

A to Z 2015 : YINSH

A to Z 2015 : YINSH

I've only played this next entry once, the same night I played both Ubongo and Venture. After hearing how it was played, I briefly recall a friend talking about it before, so I was excited to try it. It's a great Gateway/Filler game.

And while it may be easy to play, it's hard to master...

A to Z 2015 : WITNESS

A to Z 2015 : WITNESS

This next entry focuses on a co-op deduction game that borrows from another game known as Telephone. It can potentially play in 15 Min or less, and there are very few rules whatsoever, so it definitely classifies as a Gateway/Filler game.

A strong caveat, however, is that you need exactly four players to play...

A to Z 2015 : UBONGO

I was afraid I wouldn't be able to offer up a "U" beyond Uno, and I have been intentionally avoiding classics whenever possible. Though, I wasn't opposed to variants of classics since many people may not know of them. As it turns out, I was invited to a Game Night by a friend of my regular gaming group. The host ended up having thousands of games in his collection!

So that night alone I fulfilled my experience quota of "U", "V", and "Y" games, which I was still needing to figure out. The collection was amazing! This entry, a game that reminds me of Tetris, is...

A to Z 2015 : PIGPEN

A to Z 2015 : PIGPEN

From one Filler to the next! Although, despite this next entry being claimed as a Filler game, the one experience I had of it took much longer than what was listed on the box. This may have been because almost everyone in the playgroup was learning the game, but I suspect not. The rules are nowhere near complicated, but I think the way the game plays can cause for lengthy sessions.

Grab your saws and hammers and let's take a look at the Kickstarter game that focuses on building yourself a handy dandy...
